WHAT'S BETTER ~ CARB OR CALORIE RESTRICTION? Most importantly, we need to recognize (most) lipid problems for what they are ----- prediabetes. This is frequently glossed over and the patient is put on statins for high cholesterol (which will, ironically, increase the risk of diabetes) that come with a lengthy list of other negative side effects. And, did you know that elevated cholesterol DOES NOT cause heart disease? Women with higher cholesterol live longer. Cholesterol levels <160 are unhealthy and dangerous! Do you know your numbers? I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again until it sinks in.....”We are not a statin-deficient society.”   Source: http://www.ajcn.org/content/93/5/1048.abstract CLINICAL PEARLS from a seminar I attended presented by Charles Poliquin AVOID these to reduce your risk of prostate cancer: 1. Any fizzy beverage (i.e. soda) due to the sodium benzoate 2. All Fat-free, Non-fat and Low-fat dairy products THUMBS UP FOR FISH OIL A study in the American Journal of Physiology reinforces findings from other studies showing that omega-3 fatty acids improve heart function, exercise endurance and recovery, increase muscle mass, reduce body fat and decrease post-exercise inflammation. The Standard American diet (SAD) is sadly deficient in omega-3 fatty acids and too high in omega-6 fats. The ratio for the majority of Americans is 25:1 (6:3); an ideal ratio would be 2:1. Dietary sources of omega-3 fatty acids include wild fish & game, quality fish oils, range-fed eggs, grass-fed meats, and nuts, such as walnuts. Fish can no longer be recommended as a safe source of omega-3s due to high levels of mercury, PCBs and other toxic contaminations. Fish oil contains eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Flaxseed oil contains only alpha- linolenic acid (ALA). The conversion to EPA and DHA from flax is not efficient, therefore making EPA/DHA the preferred supplement. Insufficient intake of omega-3 increases risk of developing dementia. Another study published the journal Menopause that showed that omega-3 fish oils can significantly reduce the frequency of hot flashes. Yet another study published in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention showed that postmenopausal women who take fish oil supplements reduce their risk of breast cancer by 32 percent! Prenatal deficiency of omega-3 fatty acids increase the odds of diabetes in adulthood. And, the studies go on and on as there are thousands on benefits of omega-3’s. The following impair the absorption of fatty acids: antacids, antibiotics, inadequate chewing, food intolerances, anti-inflammatory drugs, bacteria, viruses, parasites, fungi, Candida and alcohol.   Do you have an essential fatty acid deficiency? Dry skin and/or hair, dandruff, brittle and/or soft nails, irritability, ADD, sugar cravings, poor wound healing, cracked skin on your heels or fingertips, chicken skin on back of arms, dry eyes, allergies, pain and inflammation....the list goes on....   If you consistently burp fish oils, your body is not emulsifying the oils indicating digestive dysfunction or gallbladder dysfunction and a need for Digestzyes. Or, you’re using a poor quality fish oil. Ultra-purified fish oil is more expensive, but you get what you pay for. Maintenance dose is 6gm daily per Charles Poliquin Dr. John Berardi states if your goal is fat loss, 1gm for every % bodyfat Beneficial for skin, fat loss, inflammation, depression, insulin resistance, diabletes, heart health, elevated triglycerides, pregnancy and so much more. Order your Omega-3 fish oil Capsules or liquid (orange or lemon smoothie) guaranteed to be void of PCBs and heavy metals. EFA Sirt Supreme - Each serving of EFA-Sirt Supreme supplies on average   750 mg of GLA, 900 mg of EPA, and 600 mg of DHA. 180 caps @ $59.50 Reference: Billman, G. E., & Harris, W. S. (2011).
